The sport committees will provide a direct voice to USA Cycling staff on behalf of their represented demographic. It is important that members choose the candidate that best reflects their interests as a member. To that end, many candidates have submitted qualification statements that are now posted online.
USA Cycling members who hold a 2011 license can vote for candidates in their electoral group. All those who hold a USA Cycling MTB license may vote for the MTB At Large position. The candidate endorsed by WORS is Matt Gehling:
Matt Gehling Mountain Bike Committee — At-Large I would be honored to represent the mountain bike community on the newly formed USA Cycling Mountain Bike Committee. Mountain biking has been a part of my life for more than 10 years. I began as an occasional racer in high school, and am now an every-other-weekend regular at my local race series. I feel passionate about growing the sport of mountain biking and making it more accessible for anyone that is interested. Through the Wisconsin Off Road Series, I regularly interact and ride with racers of all ability levels and ages. For two years, I have helped to lead our Learn to Race Clinics, and feel that I will be able to contribute a well-rounded view of what mountain bike racers would want to see for the progression of the sport. My main concerns currently are:
  • Classification of categories (division and number of categories)
  • Youth involvement with mountain bike racing, specifically young men and women at the Cat 2 and Cat 3 levels
  • General growth of the sport (how do we get more riders to race?)
Thank you for your consideration for the at large mountain bike committee position.
If you are a qualified member, you may also cast your vote for Travis "T.J." Woodruff:
Travis Woodruff Mountain Bike Committee — Coach As an active USAC Level I coach and professional mountain bike racer, I am interested in fulfilling the ‘Coach’ position on the Mountain Bike Committee. Having the opportunity to work with juniors, seniors and masters alike, all of who compete at various levels and in various disciplines of our sport, I am highly motivated to serve USA Cycling members and ensure a healthy future for mountain bike racing. It is important to me personally and professionally that USA Cycling serves the needs of its members and provides quality experiences for all of us to enjoy over the long-term. As a full-time cycling coach who participates in races across the country it will be my goal to provide feedback and direction as to how USAC can improve upon its own work. I am particularly interested in rider development and the pathways which exist for racers who are aspiring to compete on the National team. I appreciate your consideration and wish you the best of rides.
