Inaugural Firecracker a Hit

Over 800 racers from WORS (the Wisconsin Off Road Series) and the MNSCS (Minnesota State Championship Series) met at the Eau Claire County Expo Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin for the first annual Chippewa Valley Firecracker. Enticed by the enthusiasm of race director Phil Johnson and the coalition of local riders, CORBA (Chippewa Off Road Bike Association), the Chippewa Valley Sports Commission, and area bike shops that came together to form the organizing committee, WORS made its first ever trip to Eau Claire. Although the initial presentation included a less than impressive ski trail system adjacent to the proposed staging area, WORS took a chance on this new venue and was not disappointed. Chief of Course, Craig Manthe with the help of the local WORBA chapter and area racers laid out and created singletrack that compares with any in the series. The best part is this new mountain bike trail system is here for Eau Claire area riders and others to enjoy for years to come.

Fearing that the Eau Claire venue may be a little far to travel for many of the WORS regulars from Illinois and southern and eastern Wisconsin, WORS approached the MNSCS about holding an event that would be scored in both series, since many of the MNSCS racers are close by in the Twin Cities, and a deal on the first ever joint venture between the two series came in to being. Thanks to all who came together to make the Firecracker a success!
