Phillips Dirtfighter 2007

This weekend, WORS racers made the trek north for the Marshfield Clinic Sports Medicine Phillips Dirtfighter at the Price County Fairgrounds in Phillips, WI. This year's Dirtfighter was race number four of the Subaru sponsored Wisconsin Off Road Series. Sunday's event also marked the 16th edition of racing at Phillips, the only event in the series to remain of the six that made up the inaugural WORS season. Despite an excellent course and great venue amenities, with nearly 500 racers in attendance the Dirtfighter is not one of WORS best drawing events. Those in attendance consistently give the Phillips Dirtfighter Classic very high marks as one of the best venues in all of WORS. Phillips is a fun ride and for those intrepid competitors is "certainly worth the drive!"

The course this year was fast and dry for the Citizen racers, who began under slightly overcast skies. Although clouds threatened, showers held off until the first lap of the CycleOps Sport race. The light to moderate rain continued while the Sports were on the track, making for slicker rocks and wetter dust. However, aside from distant lighting and thunder, the area was spared from strong storms. The afternoon BelGioioso Elite and Clif Comp start was slightly delayed by a severe thunderstorm warning, though the storm hit about ten miles south of the race site. By the time Elite and Comp competitors took to the track, the rain had passed and the heat came on not long after.

The Hayes Disc Brakes Citizen Series Race took racers on two laps of the Phillips course. This week, 1st place overall Citizen women
