Race Directors

WORS race directors met for four hours on Saturday prior to the awards banquet to review 2003 and plan for 2004. Gerard Bisceglia, the CEO of USA Cycling and Kelli Lusk, NORBA Eastern Region Manager were on hand to present the changes in NORBA for 2004. The basics of the program are to give WORS Comp, Sport, Citizen, and Citizen Youth racers a choice as to whether to take out a membership with NORBA or not, while bringing extra value to those who do. WORS events will be NORBA sanctioned for 2004. This affiliation will not raise entry fees. It will provide better insurance coverage for WORS events. The sanctioning will allow those who do elect to join NORBA to qualify for and compete in the newly organized NORBA National Championships next September. NORBA members also receive national and regional rankings through USA Cycling along with other benefits including a $3 discount on their entry to WORS races. Expert and above racers in NORBA sanctioned events (including WORS) are required to maintain membership in NORBA. The general feeling of the WORS race directors was that racers at these levels should be competing in races on the next beyond WORS and to do so would need a NORBA license anyway.
